Blockbuster! The ECHA published eight candidates for SVHC for public comment

On March 9, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) issued a circular on its website inviting the public to comment on eight candidate substances for SVHC.Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) are defined as Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) if no strong argument against them is presented during the review.According to REACH, interested parties have 45 days to submit their comments before April 23, 2021.

The identification process for SVHC includes a 45-day public comment period.Once a substance has been identified as SVHC, it is placed on the Candidate List established by the EU REACH Regulation, and inclusion in the Candidate List imposes a direct legal obligation on the supplier of the substance, for example:

 

  • Provide safety technical specifications;
  • Safe use communication;
  • Responding to consumer requests within 45 days;
  • The ECHA needs to be notified if articles produced by each producer or importer contain SVHC in excess of 1 tonne by weight per year and SVHC in excess of 0.1% (w/w).
